Jio is again trying to make it’s mark in the hardware industry in India with the launch of its affordable tracking device, JioTag. The device serves as a highly affordable alternative to well-known trackers such as Apple’s AirTag and Samsung’s Galaxy SmartTag, specifically designed to help you locate your missing belongings.
JioTag: Specs and Features
The JioTag is a portable tracking device that aids in locating a wide range of items such as wallets, keys, phones, and toys. Users can easily attach this device to their belongings and track them using a smartphone if they get misplaced. The tracking process is facilitated via the JioThings app. In the event of a tagged item being lost, users will receive a notification on their paired smartphone. If these notifications are missed, users can still find the last disconnection location of the lost item, providing a lead in their search.
In situations where finding the last disconnection location doesn’t yield results, the Jio Community Network, akin to the Find My Network, jumps into action. Users can mark the lost JioTag on the JioThings app, and the Community Network will search for it, returning with the location of the ‘JioTagged’ item.
The JioTag is equipped with Bluetooth version 5.1 and boasts a tracking range of up to 50 meters outdoors and up to 20 meters indoors. The device comes with a replaceable battery that is claimed to last for up to a year.
While it lacks some advanced features such as an ultra-wideband chip, a built-in speaker, and an IP rating found in Apple’s AirTag, the JioTag still stands out as a highly affordable and interesting offering that covers the basics of a tracking device effectively.
Price and Availability
The JioTag is priced at Rs 749 and can be purchased via the Jio website, JioMart, and even Reliance Digital. The device is designed in a white hue featuring the blue Jio logo in the middle, making it a stylish addition to your gadgets.
The JioTag offers a cost-effective solution to keep track of your belongings, making it a potentially valuable tool for everyday use. One thing which will become more clear in coming weeks is the Jio Community Network and Jio Things app adaptability and functionality. Though JioTag’s launch surely strengthens Jio’s position in the hardware market, showcasing its capability and ambitions to delivering innovative and affordable solutions to consumers in India.
